Open Profile
With continuing worries over the health of his wife Heather, it is understandable that Clarke has been unable to produce his very best this season. But the Open Championship has a special place in the Ulsterman's heart and Hoylake could bring out the best in a hugely popular player with the galleries. He has twice nearly got his hands on the title and, bar Tiger Woods, could technically be the player most suited to links golf considering his superb ball control and ability to shape his shots in gusty conditions. A few putts dropping at the right time and eliminating the destructive shots that can creep into his round would make Clarke a big player this week.
