Monty has enjoyed a real resurgence in his career over the past 12 months with the catalyst his excellent second to Tiger Woods in this event at St Andrews. The confidence flowed back and along with it came a rapid rise back up among the elite in the game. He almost capped it with victory at Winged Foot in the US Open last month but one poor shot when within touching distance of the trophy meant he agonisingly missed out on that elusive major once again. It would not take a great deal more to see him over the winning line at Hoylake and you can be sure he would bring the house down if getting his hands on the Old Claret Jug.
