the open inside track - after r2
By Harry Emanuel
So it's not over yet. By 1pm on Friday afternoon it looked as though the Open was done and dusted and the engraver was about to go to work - carving Tiger Woods' name on the Claret Jug for a third time.
That may still be the case come Sunday night but there is still a lot of golf to be played between now and then. As Adam Scott pointed out; "This course can bite anyone, even Tiger." He added: "But it's going to take some great golf to beat him though."
The course is starting to firm up again which will make things tougher but Chris DiMarco reckoned: "The wind isn't howling so you're able to score round here. There are some tough holes and you just have to keep it out of the bunkers."
That is where course strategy is key. The wind dictates which club players use off the tee. They can either fly the bunkers or lay up short. Woods layed up shorter than his playing partners yesterday but if you can hole a 4 iron what does it matter?
Below are the hole averages through two rounds.

The start continues to prove difficult and I would not be surprised to see Ernie Els leading the Open briefly as anyone can drop shots early on.
With the Par fives still easily reachable in two, scoring will continue to be low.
As for a winning score Retief Goosen looks to have it about right: "It looks to me that 20 under par is going to win." Pity as I laid 18-under or better on Betfair before the start of play on Thursday!
