Phil Mickelson made amends for hitting a young fan during his round by signing a glove and apologising.
The world number two pulled his tee shot on the 459-yard 17th into the crowd, hitting the youngster on the arm.
On reaching the spot in the rough where his ball had finished, the 36-year-old American found the boy waiting.
"He said 'You've just hit me'," explained Mickelson.
"Well, I guess I did hit him. I didn't mean to - obviously.
"I just gave him a glove (signed 'Sorry, Phil') and said I was sorry but I think he was okay."
Mickelson made a par four on the hole and finished with a round of 71 for a four-under-par total - eight behind world number one and defending champion Tiger Woods who leads the tournament by one from Ernie Els.
