A man was ejected by police from the Royal Liverpool Golf Club on Sunday after interrupting Tiger Woods' march to a third Open championship by throwing purple powder on to the 18th green.
Boos rang around the three main stands as the man ran onto the putting surface but he was quickly restrained and marched straight off the course by three police officers.
A statement from the Royal and Ancient simply read: "A member of the public has been ejected for unruly behaviour."
Sergio Garcia, who was playing the final hole alongside Woods, was disappointed to see the Open - and the world number one's march to an 11th major - spoiled.
"We didn't see the person who threw it but it is very disappointing to see that happen in a championship like this, the best championship in the world," said the Spaniard.
"You have got an unbelievable championship and unbelievable crowds.
"But it didn't affect me at all - I wasn't putting through the paint anyway."
